It aims to “establish a robust, transparent, predictable and sustainable regulatory framework for medical devices which ensures a high level of safety and health whilst supporting innovation”. It further aims “to ensure the smooth functioning of the internal market as regards medical devices, taking as a base a high level of protection of health for patients and users, and taking into account the small- and medium-sized enterprises that are active in this sector.”
But now, innovation is leaving the EU!
We as physicians feel, that if the balance between safety and the functioning of the internal market is no longer existing, it will severely challenge Europe’s position as a location for the MedTech industry. And even worse, it will have a severe negative impact on European healthcare and patients, as modern and innovative technologies won´t be available to treat severe diseases.
The current Medical Device Regulation is against launching medical device innovation in the EU. Many start-up companies are now more likely to prioritize USA over EU for innovative technologies.
Fortunately, there are thousands of innovative ideas designed to improve people’s lives.
Let´s build up networks to support start-up and innovative ideas
to connect physicians, MedTech industry and start-up companies and ideas!
